About

What is NINEBASE?

A coaching system built for one position only: the halfback.

Every other position in rugby has specialists. Front rowers get scrum coaches. Kickers get kicking coaches. The 9 (the player who touches the ball more than anyone else on the field, sets the tempo of the game and lives in the most chaotic square metre of it) usually gets whatever's left over at the end of training. NINEBASE exists to fix that.

In one line

The training environment of a pro 9, packaged.

NINEBASE takes what a professional halfback is taught inside a Super Rugby environment (the technical detail, the standards, the decision-making frameworks, the video review loop) and turns it into something a player anywhere in the world can train week to week.

It's part course, part membership, part coaching relationship. You start by learning the fundamentals properly. You then train them against real programming. Then you put your own footage in front of coaches who have played the position at Test and Super Rugby level and get told exactly what to change.

It is not a drill dump, a highlight reel or a generic strength app. It's a system for becoming a better number 9.

01
Position-specific

Nothing generic. Every drill, cue and review is built for the halfback and no one else.

02
A system, not content

A clear path: learn the fundamentals, train them, get reviewed, repeat. Structure over random drills.

03
Coached by professionals

Harrison Goddard and Wallabies great Will Genia. Two nines who have lived the position at the top.

04
Review is the engine

You send footage, we send back a breakdown. Feedback is where real change actually happens.

How NINEBASE works

Three ways in.

Deliberately simple. Most players start with the ebook, then step up into the G9 Club when they want coaching that talks back.

01

The 9 Fundamentals Ebook

Five written chapters breaking down the position, with the drills to build each fundamental. This is the entry point.

02

The G9 Club

The membership. Ongoing programming, member-only drops and monthly review sessions led by Harrison and Will Genia. Online worldwide, or in-person for Sydney players.

In-Person Sessions

One-on-one field time with Harrison in Sydney. Single sessions, 3 packs and 6 packs, no membership required.

What we believe

The standards behind it.

NINEBASE was built on a handful of blunt observations about how halfbacks are coached in rugby.

Meet the coaches
  • 01The 9 touches the ball more than any other player and gets coached the least.
  • 02Most halfbacks are trained as generic backs, then blamed for halfback errors.
  • 03Technique without decision making is useless. So is decision making without technique.
  • 04You can't fix what you never see. Footage and honest feedback beat opinion.
  • 05Standards travel. What a professional does in training is repeatable at any level.
Harrison Goddard, founder of NINEBASE
Who built it

Harrison Goddard, professional 9.

Harrison is an Australian professional scrum-half of Aboriginal descent. Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels, NSW Waratahs and ACT Brumbies, Major League Rugby with the LA Giltinis, Australia U20 and Australia Sevens honours, selection for the inaugural First Nations & Pasifika XV, and currently playing in Japan Rugby League One.

He's joined by Will Genia, a 110-Test Wallaby, who leads the G9 Club review sessions.
